The Flensburg Tax Office is the tax office of the city of Flensburg , which is subordinate to the Ministry of Finance of the State of Schleswig-Holstein . The building erected in 1923/24 is one of the cultural monuments of the Westliche Höhe district .

background

Even during the time of the Danish rule, the Duburg district served as an administrative enclave and subsequently developed into the seat of authorities. The Flensburg tax office was built there after the First World War by the Reichsbauamt Flensburg according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Penners, who also worked in Aachen , Cuxhaven , Kiel , Königsberg and Hanover during his life . Penner built the tax office as a multi-winged brick building , in the Baroque style of the homeland security style . The tax office was located on the site of a former garrison hospital , in the vicinity of the Duburg barracks, which still existed at the time . Said barracks were only demolished in 1990 and replaced by a new local employment office building. The tax office was assigned a special urban planning position. The tax office has the address Duburger Straße 58-64, but is also located at the upper end of the Burgplatz, which it closes to the northwest. The forecourt of the tax office building is in the line of sight of the bureau. A flight of stairs leads to the main entrance, above which the stone relief plaque with the inscription "Finanzamt" hangs. The central building was originally the actual tax office, while the north wing housed the customs offices and the Reich building office . Service apartments were located in the south wing and in the street wing, which can be clearly seen structurally from the balconies there . The top of the building is closed by low hipped roofs .

In 1981 the tax office was expanded to include additions on the rear west side of the building. The extensions cannot be seen from Burgplatz. In the north of the tax office is the parking lot of the authority. The aforementioned extension by architects Sönke Blaue and Christian Polacsek is clearly visible from the access road there, Waldstrasse. For this two-storey, cross-shaped extension, primarily red bricks were used, supplemented by a wooden structure on the outside and inside. The architect received the 1984 BDA award for the administrative building extension.
