Graciano is a red wine variety that is particularly widespread in Spain and on the Italian island of Sardinia .

distribution

Worldwide there is a cultivation area of ​​the Graciano variety - in 2010 - of 3,112 ha. Of this there are 2,281 ha in Spain, 469 ha in Italy, 332 in Portugal and 10 ha in France.

In Sardinia, their cultivation is permitted in the provinces of Cagliari , Oristano and Sassari . Their wines find their way into the DOC wines of Alghero . In Spain it is approved in the DO wines of Gran Canaria , Monte Lentiscar , Navarra , Ribera del Guadiana , Somontano , Valle de Güímar , Valle de la Orotava and Ycodén-Daute-Isora . Before the grape variety experienced an upswing with the DOCa.classification of Rioja in 1991, it was threatened with extinction. In Rioja she is a blending partner of the classic Rioja and responsible for its aging capacity.

Ampelographic features

  • The tip of the shoot is hairy with moderately thick white wool, the edge is colored red.
  • The young leaves are bronzed, the leaf is dark green, pale, five-lobed. The stalk bay is lyre-shaped, overlapping and the leaf veins are colored red. The underside of the leaf is hairy with moderately thick white wool.
  • The shape of the grapes is cylindrical, shouldered and compact. The berries are blue-black, round, small and have a thick berry skin.
