The county is almost 6 km long, left and eastern tributary of the Lenne within the urban area of Schmallenbergs in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis .

The county running in the Hochsauerland rises around 1 km northwest of the Schmallenberg district of Schanze in the Opspring nature reserve .
From its source , which is around 662 m above sea level. NHN , the county initially flows in a north-westerly direction to the Grafschaft district . It then flows in a westerly direction towards Schmallenberg.
There the county flows into the Ruhr tributary Lenne coming from the north .
The approximately 5.98 kilometer long run of the county ends about 276 meters below its source, so it has a mean bed gradient of about 46 ‰.
A large part of the stream lies in the landscape protection area of the county's valley area and side valleys .
Catchment area
The county's 12.4 km² catchment area is drained through it via the Lenne, the Ruhr and the Rhine to the North Sea.
It borders
- in the east to the catchment area of the Hartmecke , which flows into the Lenne,
- in the south to that of the Latrop , which also flows into the Lenne and
- in the north to that of the Lenne directly.
The catchment area in the valley is characterized by agriculture, the adjacent hills are wooded.
Tributaries
A few short streams flow into the county from the surrounding heights. The longest and most water-rich tributary is the Bremecke.
