County of Ried

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The county of Ried am Inn was an imperial immediate county in the Holy Roman Empire . The seat of the imperial counties was the Ried market in what is now Upper Austria's Innviertel . The county was established in 1710 during the occupation of Bavaria in the War of the Spanish Succession and existed under the rule of the Trautson family until it was returned to the spa Bavarians in 1714.

history

In the War of the Spanish Succession, Bavaria had fought against the Habsburgs . After the victory of Prince Eugene and the Duke of Marlborough at Höchstädt and Blindheim over the allied Bavarians and the French, the Electorate of Bavaria was occupied and came under Austrian administration. In 1710 the area east of the Inn and the Salzach was divided into imperial counties and given to high dignitaries of the emperor , mostly imperial princes .

In the course of these events gave Emperor Joseph I on 23 May 1710 the statesman and court officials Johann Leopold Donat from Trautson (1659 to 1724) in recognition of his work done large and handsome the realm services the Reich and barony castle with market Ried am Inn , including the Hausruckamt and the offices of Antorf , Lamprechte and Antisenhofen . Trautson thus had a seat and vote in the Reichstag . The solemn homage to the new sovereign took place in the presence of Johann Leopold Donat von Trautson on June 11, 1710.

Although he was raised to the rank of imperial prince on March 19, 1711 , Johann Leopold Donat von Trautson failed to establish his own principality (as the Liechtensteiners achieved in Vaduz ). After the death of Emperor Joseph I and the Peace of Rastatt , he lost his imperial county again in 1714 when the area was returned to Kurbayern.
