Tancarville County

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lordship of Tancarville and later the county of Tancarville was in Normandy and was a Norman fiefdom around the main town of Tancarville .

The rule was held in the 11th century by Raoul de Tancarville, the guardian of Duke Wilhelm II, who later became King William the Conqueror of England . Raoul became Chamberlain (Chambellan) of Normandy, a function that remained in the family, so that after some time she was called Chambellan de Tancarville .

The rule of Tancarville was elevated to a county in the 14th century when Johann II of Melun, through his marriage to Jeanne, the daughter of Robert of Tancarville and heir to her brother Wilhelm VI, came into possession of the rule. However, the family died out with Johann grandson Wilhelm von Melun in 1415.

When King Charles V gave the County of Longueville to Bertrand du Guesclin , the Connétable of France , on May 27, 1364 , he spun off the County of Tancarville, which was previously under the County of Longueville, and made it a royal fief .

Tancarville came by will to François d'Orléans, Count of Dunois, whose descendants owned it until the beginning of the 18th century. The county is later owned by the Colbert who bequeath it to the House of Montmorency . The title has not been used since the end of the 18th century.
