Grammosolen is a genus ofplantsfromthe nightshade family (Solanaceae) endemic to southern Australia . It consists of only two types .
description
Vegetative characteristics
The Grammosolen species are up to 2 m high shrubs , the branches and leaves of which are densely hairy. The hair consists of tree-shaped branched trichomes . The leaves are ovate, ovate-elliptical, ovate-triangular or elliptical and 5 to 20 × 3 to 17 mm in size. They are closely packed or at greater intervals, are sessile or provided with 2 to 4 mm long petioles.
Inflorescences and flowers
The inflorescences are cymes of one to three flowers , which occasionally form leafy spikes . The calyx is about 2.5 to 4 mm long and densely hairy, the crown narrowly tubular, 7 to 13 mm long and provided with long, narrow corolla lobes, the insides of which are hairless. Usually the lobes are a little shorter than the corolla tube or sometimes the same length.
The five stamens are divided into two long and three short ones , the anthers consist of only one theka with a length of 0.6 to 0.7 mm.
Fruits and seeds
The fruits are capsules that split open with a partition, have four chambers and are 3.5 to 4.5 mm long. The seeds are 2.5 to 3.5 mm long, the embryo is slightly curved, the cotyledons are very short.
Occurrence
The genus grows endemically in arid areas near the coast in southern Australia .
