Re-releases
As part of the Game Arts Game Archives Festival , a series of re-releases for the PSN were announced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Game Arts . Grandia II was released in November 2014, Grandia Xtreme in December 2014 and Grandia III in January 2015 . The games are currently only available in the Japanese PSN store. All games that are published for the Game Arts Game Archives Festival are listed on a special website , Grandia is also listed there, although it was already published in the PSN store in 2009/2010. The fifth announcement was a competition in March 2015 in which one could win a soundtrack CD autographed by Noriyuki Iwadare and many smaller fan articles for Grandia. The competition ended on the 31st of the same month.
In April 2015, Game Arts launched a digital survey asking about popular features in their games. Later in May of that year it was announced that the game Grandia II would be re-released for the PC , but only offered digitally via Steam . The game is based on the Dreamcast version and is to be revised in HD . Initially announced as an HD remake , the format was marketed as the 15th Anniversary Edition shortly before the release date, August 24, 2015 .
IGN announced in August 2018 that an “HD remaster ” of Grandia will be released for the Nintendo Switch and for Steam in the winter of the same year. However, the publication period was not respected. Grandia "HD Remaster" was released in Steam on October 15th, 2019 - followed by Grandia II "HD Remaster". In addition, Grandia II will also appear as an HD remaster for the Nintendo Switch , while Steam already has the 15th Anniversary Edition . Grandia II was already playable for the Nintendo Switch at PAX 2018 in Seattle . The scheduled release was not adhered to, but in June 2019 GungHo announced that the release would be presented at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June of that year. The version for Nintendo Switch is now also called "Grandia HD Collection" and there was also information that Grandia II will now also receive German and French texts that were not previously available in the original version. On August 16, 2019, the HD Remaster Collection was finally released digitally under the title “Grandia HD Collection” in the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch.
Future of the series
In an interview, the CEO of GungHo, Kazuki Morishita, said that a continuation of the series is being considered, but that this would depend on the success of the Grandia HD Collection.
Soundtracks
So far, 15 soundtrack albums have been released for the series and all were composed by Noriyuki Iwadare .
