Grant Potulny (born March 4, 1980 in Grand Forks , North Dakota ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach who was under contract with the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League until 2009 . His younger brother Ryan is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Grant Potulny began his career as a hockey player with the Lincoln Stars, for which he was active from 1998 to 2000 in the junior league United States Hockey League . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the fifth round as a total of 157 players by the Ottawa Senators , for whom he never played. Instead, the attacker ran for four years for the University of Minnesota team , with which he won the championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in 2003 and 2004 . During this time Potulny was three years as team captain of the Golden Gophers , as long as no player before him since 1947. From 2004 to 2007, the left shooter for Ottawa's farm team , the Binghamton Senators , was on the ice in the American Hockey League . He also stayed in the AHL, in which he competed for the Hershey Bears and Springfield Falcons in the 2007/08 season .
The 2008/09 season began Potulny with the Füchsen Duisburg in the German ice hockey league . After only seven games in which he scored one goal, the American returned to the AHL, where he played for the San Antonio Rampage and Norfolk Admirals until the end of the season. Following this season, the American ended his playing career due to injury problems and then took over the post of assistant coach with the Golden Gophers , the university team of the University of Minnesota.
