Ryan Potulny (born September 5, 1984 in Grand Forks , North Dakota ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Braehead Clan in the British Elite Ice Hockey League since August 2017 . His older brother Grant is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Ryan Potulny began his career as a hockey player with the Lincoln Stars, for which he was active from 2001 to 2003 in the United States Hockey League . He was then selected in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as the 87th player of the Philadelphia Flyers . Initially, however, the attacker played for three years for the University of Minnesota , with which he won the championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the 2003/04 season . After his final season at the University of Minnesota was Potulny for Hobey Baker Award nominated . Towards the end of the 2005/06 season he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Philadelphia Flyers, for whom he prepared a goal in two games.

From 2006 to 2008 Potulny ran parallel for the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL and their farm team , the Philadelphia Phantoms in the American Hockey League . For the Phantoms he scored the 3-2 winner in the game against the Albany River Rats on April 24, 2008 after 82:58 minutes in overtime . This was the longest overtime in the history of the AHL. On June 6, 2008 in exchange for Danny Syvret to the Edmonton Oilers , for which he gave three templates in eight games in the 2008/09 season . However, he spent the rest of the season in their AHL farm team Springfield Falcons . In the following season Potulny received significantly more ice age with the Oilers in the NHL and was used in 64 encounters in which he reached a balance of 32 points. In September 2010 he signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent . They mainly used him in the farm team at the Rockford IceHogs , where the attacker was set as a regular. At the end of February 2011, shortly before the trade deadline, the Blackhawks exchanged him with the Ottawa Senators , who sent him to the Binghamton Senators' farm team .

On July 1, 2011, Potulny signed a contract with the Washington Capitals and was used exclusively for the Hershey Bears in the AHL for the next three years .

In August 2014, he received a one-year contract with the Hartford Wolf Pack .

In July 2015 Potulny left North America and was signed by the Pelicans from the Finnish Liiga for one year.

International

Potulny took part in the 2010 World Cup with the US national team. The attacker scored two goals and two assists in six World Cup games .
