The Granuaile is the multi-purpose ship of the Commissioners of Irish Lights .

General

Granuaile is a traditional name for ships of the Irish Lighthouse Authority and it comes from the pirate Grace O'Malley . Ships of the same name were in service for the Commissioners of Irish Lights from 1948 to 1970 and from 1970 to 2000. The hull of today's Granuaile was manufactured at the shipyard belonging to the Damen Shipyards Group in Galați , Romania , equipped in the Netherlands and delivered in January 2000. The prefix of the ship's name is ILV and stands for Irish Light Vessel ( German Irish lighthouse ).

Skills

The Granuaile has a diesel-electric drive and can position itself dynamically . A large working deck with a ship's crane , a helicopter landing pad on the foredeck , three dinghies , parking spaces for up to 16 standard containers and additional accommodation for eleven people make the ship universally applicable, for example as a buoy laying vessel , lighthouse tender , survey ship or as a platform for remotely operated vehicles and Diver . The Granuaile can also be chartered for these missions .
