Location and surroundings
The Grasleitenhütte is located at an altitude of 2165 m in the area of the municipality of Tiers . It is located in the Grasleitental in the Rosengarten group . The surrounding green slopes are popularly known as Grasleiten .
The hut serves as a base for hiking and climbing in the surrounding mountains. If you continue up the valley you will reach the Grasleitenkessel: From here you can head south to the Grasleitenpass with the Grasleitenpasshütte , to the north over the Molignon-Pass the Tierser-Alpl-Hütte and the Rosszahnscharte to the Seiser Alm . Leaving the valley in a westerly direction leads to the Bärenloch: From here one path leads to the southwest through the Tschamin valley to St. Zyprian , another to the northwest to the Schlern .
history
The hut was built in 1887 by the Leipzig Section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club (DuOeAV). After the First World War it was expropriated by the Italian state and given to the Bergamo section of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI).
Together with 24 other shelters expropriated by the state, the Grasleitenhütte became the property of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol in 1999; At the end of 2010, the license for their management by the CAI expired. Since 2015, the state of South Tyrol has been supported in the management of the hut (assignment to tenants, supervision of management, renovation measures) by a joint commission, in which the AVS and CAI are represented in addition to the public sector .
