Graswang is a district of the Upper Bavarian municipality of Ettal in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district .

location

The church village is located about 5 km west of Ettal and about 5 km east of Linderhof in the Graswang Valley north of the Linder on both sides of State Road 2060 at an altitude of 867  m above sea level. NHN .

history

It is possible that Graswang was already settled during the Germanic times. This is indicated by the place name. Places on -wang (= open area) are very old and go back to foundations in Germanic times. In the Salbuch Duke Ludwigs des Strengen around 1270, "five unnamed Schwaigen in Amte Ammergau" are listed, which probably means the farms in Graswang and Linder.

Townscape

The village, located off the Ettal - Oberammergau thoroughfare , has a rural character. The village is characterized by its quiet location and old wooden farms or houses decorated with ornate gables. The farmer's heights are mostly Einfirsthöfe with alpine flat saddle roofs. In the center of the village, some of these farmhouses, which date from the 17th and 18th centuries, are located around a grassy square.
