history

Great Grief was founded in 2013 under the name Icarus in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik . The band consists of singer Finnbogi Örn Einarsson, guitarist Gunnar Águst Thoroddsen, bassist Fannar Már Oddsson and drummer Leifur Örn Kaldal Eiríksson.

Their debut EP Ascending // Descending was released in May 2013 and was recorded by the band in their own home studio. The album was mixed and mastered by Haukur Hannes. The German underground label Lifeisafunnything took over a CD release and was limited to 200 copies , while the vinyl edition of the EP was limited to 300 records.

On November 9, 2015, the band changed their name to Great Grief . On November 8, 2018, the band signed a worldwide record deal with No Sleep Records , released a new single with Ivory (Lie) and announced the debut album Love, Lust, and Greed for December 7 of the same year. The band was also invited to the Iceland Airwaves as a surprise guest .

music

The band played an instrumental post-rock when it was founded , but quickly changed their musical direction to a harder style of music. The music on the debut EP like The Chariot , which found a balance between metalcore , post-hardcore and professional chaos. From time to time the music also reminds of genre veterans Gallows or the fiddly metalcore band Protest the Hero . The band manages to position itself between the pop bombast of groups like Architects or Bring Me the Horizon and total stupidity.

On the single Ivory (Lie) from their debut album Love, Lust, and Greed , the band follows in the musical footsteps of Geoff Rickley's work with Thursday and United Nations .
