Gregory Stephen Chappell , MBE (born August 7, 1948 in Unley , South Australia ) is a retired Australian cricketer . Chappell comes from a family of cricketers. His grandfather Vic Richardson and brothers Ian Chappell and Trevor Chappell also played test cricket for Australia .

Career

Greg Chappell played 87 test matches for Australia during his career , in which he scored a total of 7110 runs (53.86 runs per wicket ). He is one of only nine Australian players who achieved a career average of at least 50 runs per wicket. In a total of 48 tests between 1975 and 1983, Chappell was the captain of the Australian test team . He played his first test for Australia in December 1970 against England in Perth . Greg Chappell had his last test in January 1984 against the Pakistani team in Sydney . In this test he broke the then existing Australian record for most career test runs achieved. This record was previously held by Don Bradman . In addition, Greg Chappell continued his career end the record for the most achieved Catches a fielder in Test cricket , total further 122. Of denied Greg Chappell 74 one day international cricket matches (ODIs) for Australia, where he 2331 runs (40.18 runs per Wicket) scored. He was also a member of the Australian team that in 1975 the final of the Cricket World Cup reached.

Others

From 2005 to 2007 Greg Chappell coached the Indian national cricket team . In 1973 he was named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year . In 2009 Greg Chappell was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
