Gregor Hasler

Gregor Hasler (born July 5, 1968 in Basel ) is a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist .

Life

Hasler grew up in Lucerne . After studying medicine at the University of Zurich , he received his doctorate in 1997 and then worked as an assistant doctor at the medical clinic of the Zollikerberg Hospital. He completed his specialist training as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist at the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Hohenegg in Meilen and at the Psychiatric Polyclinic of the University Hospital Zurich . At the same time, he continued his education in psychiatric epidemiology and health services research at the Psychiatric University Clinic in Zurich and did research for three years at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda (Maryland) in the field of epidemiology: he examined the influence of stress on mental and physical health .

In 2006 Hasler became senior physician at the University Hospital Zurich, where he led the consultation hours for affective disorders and psychosomatics . In 2007 he became a private lecturer at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich. Since January 1, 2010, he has been Associate Professor for Psychiatric Health Services Research and Head of Social Psychiatry at the University Psychiatric Services in Bern . In 2016 he was visiting professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, USA, on a sabbatical . His research focuses on the interplay of social, psychological and biological factors in the prevention and treatment of psychological disorders . Since January 1, 2019, he has been a full professor of psychiatry and psychotherapy at the University of Friborg (Switzerland). His scientific work has been awarded national and international prizes.

In 2017, Hasler published the book “Resilience: The We Factor. Overcoming stress and fears together »published by Schattauer-Verlag. In summer 2019 his second book "Darm-Hirn-Connection. Revolutionary knowledge for our mental and physical health" will be published by Schattauer-Verlag.

Hasler is committed to national and international specialist societies. In 2015 he was elected President of the Swiss Society for Bipolar Disorders. In 2016 he was made a full member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) and in 2017 he was appointed Scientific Advisor to the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP). He was a scientific advisor to the German Ministry of Education and Research.
