Gregor Langemak (also: Gregorius Langemak (Langemack) ; born November 10, 1671 in Uetersen ; † June 1, 1737 in Stralsund ) was a German theologian .

Life

He was born as the son of Pastor Johann Langemak (1628–1685) and his wife Sophia Johanna on November 10th in Uetersen and spent his childhood and youth there. He later attended the Johanneum in Hamburg and received further training in Braunschweig . At the age of 20, he attended the University in Jena , until he 1696 Kiel the office of a tutor and tutor for the son of the famous theologian Johann Friedrich Mayer took that as a pastor in St. Jacobi Church in Hamburg worked.

In 1701 Johann Friedrich Mayer was appointed general superintendent for the Swedish Pomerania and Langemak followed him to Greifswald , where he accepted the position as vice principal at a school. In the same year he became a deacon and in 1714 began cataloging the library named after Henning Leve at the archive library at the city ​​archive in Stralsund. In 1717 he took the position of archdeacon at the St. Nikolai Church until he was appointed pastor on May 22, 1721.

In 1722 the theological faculty in Greifswald awarded him a doctorate. During this time he wrote several writings that were of great importance for the Pomeranian church history. In the Historia Catechetia he attempted for the first time to write a complete history of councilors and councils, thus laying the noteworthy foundation for a part of scientific-practical theology that received great attention in the 18th century. In 1722 he submitted, among other things, a curriculum for the Stralsund school, from which his theological and Latin education as well as a correct understanding of the requirements in the educational field emerged. Later other writings and publications followed, which received great attention in Germany.
