The border summit is 4618  m above sea level. M. high, little independent ridge point on the border between Italy and Switzerland . It is part of Monte Rosa and lies on the border ridge between the Silbersattel ( 4515  m above sea level ) in the north and the Grenzsattel ( 4453  m above sea level ) in the southeast, where the southeast ridge on the Dufourspitze turns more to the east and branches off from the border ridge.

The border summit is mostly approached from Zermatt or from the Rotenboden station of the Gornergratbahn via the Monte Rosa hut . It is seldom climbed as an independent destination, but crossed on the way to the Dufourspitze, especially from the Italian huts Capanna Regina Margherita or from the Gnifettihütte . The border summit also marks the end of the ascent through the Monte Rosa east face (east face of Macugnaga ).
