The north end is 4609  m above sea level. M. high secondary summit of the Dufourspitze in the massif of Monte Rosa and lies on the border between Italy and Switzerland . It was first climbed on August 26, 1861. The north end is mostly approached from Zermatt or from the Rotenboden station of the Gornergratbahn via the Monte Rosa hut . The normal route leads from the Silbersattel ( 4515  m above sea level ) over the south ridge to the summit.
