The Signalkuppe - in Italian Punta Gnifetti - is a 4554  m slm / 4553  m above sea level. M. high peak in the Monte Rosa massif of the Valais Alps on the border between the Swiss canton of Valais and the Italian province of Vercelli .

On its Italian side, the Signalkuppe has the highest refuge in the Alps and thus the highest building in Europe , the Capanna Margherita ( Capanna Osservatorio Regina Margherita ), named after the Italian Queen Margarethe of Italy , who climbed the mountain in August 1893.

Approaches

The first ascent of Signalkuppe took place on August 9, 1842 by Giovanni Gnifetti , Giovanni Giordani and six companions.
