The Zumsteinspitze is 4563 m above sea level. M. high border summit of Switzerland and Italy . It is part of Monte Rosa in the Valais Alps and lies between the Dufourspitze and the Signalkuppe , separated by the Grenzsattel ( 4453 m ) and Colle Gnifetti ( 4453 m ).
Routes to the summit
The starting point for a summit tour are the mountain huts Capanna Gnifetti ( 3647 m ) and Rifugio Mantova ( 3498 m ) on the Italian side , or the Capanna Regina Margherita ( 4554 m ) on the Signalkuppe . These can be reached from the valley town of Alagna at 1190 m .
From the Swiss side, the summit of Zermatt is climbed via the Monte Rosa hut ( 2883 m ).
All routes are classic high-altitude tours and require appropriate equipment and experience.
First ascent
The first documented ascent was made on August 1, 1820 by Joseph and Johann Niklaus Vincent, Joseph Zumstein , Molinatti and Castel, together with porters.
