The Grenzhof is a hamlet in the city of Heidelberg , about eight kilometers west of the city center. It belongs to the Wieblingen district .

history

The Grenzhof goes back to a village that was first mentioned in 771 as Grenesheim in the Codex of the Lorsch Monastery . Numerous other mentions can be found in the Codex, including as Graninesheim, Gernesheim or Grensheim. Between 1153 and 1184 the place came to the monastery Schönau , which it converted into a grangie in the second half of the 12th century . A medieval charm has been preserved to this day.

Grenzhof cemetery

The courtyard was divided into eight courtyards in 1817, which are grouped around the central village square. The arrangement of the courtyards around a central meadow and as a pure domain without a church still shows the typical characteristics of a grangie. Most of the buildings that still exist today date from the mid-19th century. In 1818 a small cemetery of their own was opened for the residents on the country road to Edingen. The own elementary school was closed in 1966. After the hamlet had been a staff holding company of Wieblingen for a long time, it became a “subsidiary” of the city with the incorporation of Wieblingen to Heidelberg in 1920. The complete incorporation finally took place in 1935.

There is now a solar park for the former gravel pit located on Grenzhöfer .
