Gretchen Ulion , married. Silverman , (born May 4, 1972 in Marlborough , Connecticut ) is a former American ice hockey player . Ulion was from 1994 to 1998 a member of the women's national ice hockey team of the United States and was with this Olympic champion at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano .

Career

Ulion spent her high school years at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor , Connecticut, until 1990 , from where she moved to Dartmouth College . During her four years at college, she played hockey for the university team in the ECAC . With the team she won the Ivy League championship twice and was named Player of the Year for the division just as often. She eventually ended her college career with degrees in history and economics as well as one of the best players to ever play at Dartmouth College. She set school records in the categories of points and goals. Ulion scored 312 points scorer in the four years , including 189 goals.

After finishing college Ulion moved to the US hockey association USA Hockey . For the next four years she played at the 1994 and 1997 World Championships . The striker won the silver medal in both tournaments. At the women's ice hockey tournament held for the first time as part of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, she finally crowned her career by winning the gold medal. In the final, she contributed the first of the three goals for the Americans. She then ended her active career. From then on she worked as a teacher, including at the Pingree School in Hamilton in the state of Massachusetts . Silverman, now married, has been employed as a teacher and ice hockey coach at the Taft School in Watertown , Connecticut, since 2013 .
