Grete von Zieritz
Grete von Zieritz (born March 10, 1899 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; died November 26, 2001 in Berlin ) was an Austrian - German composer and pianist .
Life
Grete von Zieritz, the daughter of an officer who was raised to the nobility in 1918 , grew up in Vienna , Innsbruck and Graz and received her first piano lessons at the age of six. She completed her training with Hugo Kroemer (piano) and Roderich Mojsisovics von Mojsvár (composition) in 1917 with distinction. In Berlin she continued her training with Martin Krause , a student of Franz Liszt , and with Rudolf Maria Breithaupt . After successfully performing her Japanese songs , she decided to become a composer in 1921.
She stayed in Berlin and was in Franz Schreker's famous master class from 1926 to 1931 . In 1928 she received the Great Mendelssohn Prize for Composition.
In 2009 the Zieritzgasse in Vienna- Donaustadt (22nd district) was named after her.
