The Gribowski G-23 ( Russian Грибовский Г-23 ) with the nickname " Komsomolez " (Комсомолец, Komsomolze ) was an aircraft of the Soviet aircraft designer Vladimir Gribowski .

development

The two - seat low - wing aircraft with an open cockpit was designed and built as a test machine for a modified motor vehicle engine, the GAZ -M-60. It had a rigid landing gear. Since the engine was water-cooled, a radiator tunnel was installed under it. It was driven by a steel propeller. The aircraft was completed in 1936.

After the first flight of the G-23 on February 26, 1937, tests were carried out with it at the NII WWS (Scientific Research Institute of the Air Force). It turned out that the engine was too inefficient for its weight. The climb performance was not acceptable. The reliability and speed, however, were satisfactory. The machine could also not be used for aerobatics due to the carburetor design . From July 24 to 27, 1937 I. Grodsjanski carried out a long-haul flight over a total of 2584 kilometers in 21 hours at an average speed of 123 km / h, which ran without complaints.

A second G-23, which was equipped with a 150 hp Schwezow M-11 E and had a wing that was shortened by 50 centimeters, showed excellent flight performance. It was called G-23bis "Komsomolets 2". With her on July 23, 1938 by Grodjanski an international class record with 7266 meters altitude was achieved. On August 12 of the same year, N. D. Fedosejew outbid at 7,985 meters.
