The Gribowski G-29 ( Russian Грибовский Г-29 , also Gribowski G-11 ) was a cargo glider of the Soviet aircraft designer Wladimir Konstantinowitsch Gribowski , which he designed during his time in OKB -28.

development

The elfsitzige almost completely made of wood shoulder Decker had a undisguised chassis and a closed cockpit. However, a landing skid could also be used for landing, in this case the landing gear could be folded back. Metal was only used in particularly polluted areas. The aircraft was based on a request for a glider that was made after the start of the Great Patriotic War .

The development order was placed on July 7, 1941, and the first drawings were delivered on July 11. The first prototype was essentially completed by August. The first flight of the machine took place on September 1, 1941 . It showed adequate flight characteristics, but the center of gravity was critical when empty. As a result, the wing position was moved a little forward. Furthermore, there were resonances in the rear area, which also made a design change necessary. The flight tests were completed on September 28, and series production of the aircraft designated as the G-11 began. It lasted until June 1942, when production was stopped after 308 machines because there were not enough tow planes and cargo sail pilots available. The storage of the wooden machine was also difficult. Then Gribowski received the order to develop a twin-engine variant of the G-29, the Gribowski G-30 .

Production resumed in Ryazan at the end of 1943 . The first machines manufactured there flew in March 1944. During production, some changes were made to the machine. The loading door was enlarged, but the door on the right-hand side was omitted. In this construction lot, the machines were given a double steering system and structural reinforcements. The type got the designation G-11U. Production was initially discontinued after the end of the war in mid-1945, but resumed later in the year and continued until 1948.

The type was used especially for the supply of partisans and was characterized by its reliability and easy handling.
