The Griffon bleu de Gascogne is one of the FCI ( No. 32, Gr. 6, Sec. 1.2 ) recognized dog breed from France. He is one of the "Chiens du Midi", the dogs of the southwest. They are all bracken or pure French blood hounds.
Origin and history
It is a cross product of Grand Bleu de Gascogne and long-haired Griffon and comes from the Pyrenees .
description
With up to 57 cm he is a medium-sized hunting dog with "blue" fur and a tan brand. The "blue" color effect is created by the black and white stippling, which produces a bluish-gray shimmer as an overall picture. The hair is coarse and short, but due to the coarser coat, this color is not as clear as in dogs , where the coat is short and smooth. Black and white staining is also possible. The medium-sized ears are set low, flat and thinly haired.
use
The dog is very versatile and is nowadays in small packs or as a solo hunters primarily for hunting hoofed game (especially wild out), hare and fox. But this breed also achieves excellent results when searching for the sweat trail . The JGHV has approved the Griffon bleu de Gascogne for all association tests. Due to the very good nose performance and ability to concentrate, this breed is now also used outside of hunting circles and is used as a missing and person detection dog by the police and by aid organizations at home and abroad.
Essence
Fine nose; good peal ; thorough in his way of hunting, but also of full zeal and enterprise. Lively character, even lively, but still cuddly.
