Grit Lemke (* 1965 in Spremberg / Niederlausitz ) is a German author , director and curator . She lives in Berlin .

life and work

Grit Lemke was born in Spremberg / Niederlausitz in 1965 and grew up in Hoyerswerda . After completing an apprenticeship as a construction worker and working in the theater and culture sector, she studied cultural studies , ethnology and literature in Leipzig . She later did her doctorate in European ethnology at the Humboldt University in Berlin . The field research carried out for this resulted in the short film Future Proper and the book We were here, we were there. On the cultural history of modern journeyman hiking . Since 1991 she has worked as a freelance journalist, author and curator. To this day she works regularly as a film critic for the daily newspaper Junge Welt . From 1991 to 2017 she worked in various functions for the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film DOK Leipzig , most recently as director of the film program. Since 1998 she has also worked for the FilmFestival Cottbus , where she heads the German- Sorbian section Heimat | Domovna | Domizna . She dedicates herself to Sorbian filmmaking in various projects, including a. an initiative on Sorbian film heritage and the annual Serbska filmowa zyma - Sorbian film winter . She curated numerous film series at home and abroad, a. a. at DOK Leipzig, the Akademie der Künste Berlin, goEast Festival of Central and Eastern European Film Wiesbaden and for Goethe Institutes and festivals worldwide (including Poland, China, New Zealand, Russia, France, Great Britain). Lemke has held teaching positions in visual anthropology, documentary film and curating at various universities and institutes, worked as a mentor and tutor in training programs and works as a consultant for dramaturgy and evaluation strategies. After working on documentaries and series in various functions, in 2019 she directed the full-length documentary Gundermann Revier , which was nominated for the Grimme Prize in 2020 .

Committee work

Grit Lemke has been a deputy member of the BKM jury for documentary films since 2016. Since 2019 she has been working as a member of the Film Festival Advisory Board of the City of Vienna . She is co-founder of the festival work fair initiative / Festival work group in ver.di and Łuzyca-Film. Sorbian-German network of Lusatian filmmakers . She is also a member of the AG DOK and the Kulturfabrik Hoyerswerda eV
