Great Marienkirche (Lippstadt)
The Protestant Great Marienkirche is a listed church building in Lippstadt .
history
Presumably, around 1205, shortly after the city was founded, the construction of a cruciform basilica began. A beam in the flank tower on the north side dates from around 1200 according to a dendrochronological investigation. The construction sections in the east were probably built under the influence of the city's founder, Count Bernhard II . Some time later, the nave was converted into a Münsterland step hall . In addition to the two existing east towers, an additional one was built in the west. The construction was finished around 1250. The late Gothic hall choir was laid out from 1478 to 1506. The baroque dome of the west tower, which was completed in the second half of the 13th century, dates from 1684. The construction of the chapel, the sacristy and the hall choir was completed in 1478 according to the names. During the renovation from 1964 to 1972, the floors in the ambulatory and in the nave were lowered to the original level; Vault and wall paintings from the 16th century were uncovered. Another restoration took place from 1992 to 1997. The slurry, multi-part building made of quarry stone is structured with ashlar. The smooth nave walls are divided on the north side by four round arched windows and on the south side by three high, pointed arched windows with fish bubble tracery. The fronts of the transept are intricately structured.
