Big stones (Reichenbach)

The big stones are a small group of as a natural monument designated dolomite rocks in Reichenbach , a district of the Werra-Meissner located Hessisch Lichtenau ( North Hesse , Germany ).

Geographical location

The big stones are located on the northern edge of the Stölzinger Mountains around 1.5 km southeast of Reichenbach and around 1.3 km northeast of the summit of the iceberg ( 583  m above sea  level ). They are not far south of the Sandberg ( 532.7  m ) at an altitude of around 520  m . The upper course of the Vockebach flows past to the west and the weirs- tributary Im Hohl rises to the east .

The 326 km long, Hessian-Thuringian Barbarossa hiking trail leads past the natural monument in a forest area . The House of Youth is close to the Großer Steinen .

The big stones consist of dolomite rocks. They were probably used as a prehistoric place of worship , and according to legend , they were thrown into the Reichenbach area by a giant .
