The Great Pätschsee is about 50  hectares large pond in northern Brandenburg .

geography

It belongs to the Rheinsberg Lake District and is located within the Natura 2000 nature reserve Stechlin-Ruppiner Land, east of Kagar near Rheinsberg in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district . (FFH 727)

history

The Great Pätschsee was originally a post-glacial still water that was fed exclusively by precipitation and groundwater . It was not until the 1980s that it became a flowing water through the artificially created Möckerngraben. The name "Pätschsee" is probably derived from the Old Slavic word pêsŭkŭ for sand .

Hydrology

The maximum water depth of the lake, which today drains towards the Rhin - Havel area, is around 17.5 meters.

fauna and Flora

The body of water is surrounded by red beech stocks and is home to a variety of species of flora worth protecting, especially herbs, algae and mosses. On fisheries stocking there are eel , pike , carp , perch , pike , roach and rudd . In addition, there are natural occurrences of beaver , otter , crested newt , moor frog , bitterling , stag beetle , as well as snail and amphibian species .
