The Great Rotstein is a 3147  m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Rieserferner Group on the border between East Tyrol ( Austria ) and South Tyrol ( Italy ).

location

The Großer Rotstein is located in the northwest of the Lienz district (municipality of St. Jakob in Defereggen ) and in the northeast of South Tyrol (municipality of Sand in Taufers ). It is located between the Kleiner Rotstein 3048  m above sea level. A. in the northwest and the Mulle 3162  m above sea level. A. in the southeast. In the north is the Fleischbachkees , but it does not reach up to the summit. The mountain slopes in South Tyrol are protected in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park .

Increase opportunities

The normal route to the Großer Rotstein leads from the Alpengasthaus Oberhaus either via the Seebachalm to the Eastern Fleischbachkees or via the Jagdhausalm to the Western Fleischbachkees. The further path leads over the Kees and a steep firn flank up to the east ridge and in easy climbing ( UIAA II ) to the summit.
