The place Groß Väter at the Großer Vätersee

The Große Vätersee is a natural, inflow and outflow-free lake in the Schorfheide in northern Brandenburg . The small lake is in the area of Groß Dölln , a district of the town of Templin in the Uckermark district . It is part of the Bollwinwiesen / Großer Gollinsee nature reserve and is located in the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve .

Geographical location and hydrography

The Große Vätersee lies on the boundary of the place Groß Väter , which was initially incorporated as a district after Groß Dölln in 1960. Since Groß Dölln was incorporated into the town of Templin in 2003, Groß Väter has only been part of Groß Dölln's municipality. The place of the same name, Groß Väter, is located directly on the Großer Vätersee. The lake is 11.9 hectares in size, its water level is at an average height of 58.1  m above sea level. NHN . It has no inflows or outflows. It is 12 m deep and has a stable layering. The trophic index is given by the water cadastre as 2.5 (border area mesotrophic / eutrophic).

history

The large and the small Vätersee are for the first time in the inheritance register of the Zehdenick office from 1590 as Ein See die große feder ... Einn See die Lütcke feder . In 1622 the name of the big feather was ... The little feather . In a map from 1747/50 you can find the designation Der Grosse Väter, der Kl. Fäter. Friedrich Wilhelm Carl von Schmettau 's cabinet map of Prussian provinces east of the Weser and adjacent areas from 1767/87 describes the two lakes as Grosvaeter See and Kl. Vaeter See . In the Prussian Urmesstischblatt sheet 2947 Ringenwalde 1826 the two lakes appear with the names Grosvaeter lake and Kl: fathers Lake . The name is of Slavic origin, but cannot be clearly explained. It is probably derived from an old Polish basic form Vedr- zu vedr- = bright , which was originally only related to the weather. A derivation from the Old Polish basic form Vědro to vědro = bucket is also conceivable. A metaphorical name after the round shape of the lake is rather unlikely.

Pollution and the environment

The Große Vätersee, which was fed by groundwater, was heavily polluted during the GDR era by the discharge of sewage. Today no more sewage is discharged and the lake has recovered. It has again a first-class water quality. In the summer you can swim at some swimming spots. But there is a ban on fishing.
