The megalithic graves near Püttelkow were two megalithic tombs from the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Püttelkow , a district of Wittendbod in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). They were destroyed in the 19th century. Johann Ritter examined one of the graves in 1840. The second grave was discovered around 1844 and destroyed.

location

Grave 1 was about 1000 paces (approx. 750 m) north of Püttelkow, directly on the way to Düsterbeck in the lowland of a peat bog. The exact location of grave 2 is unknown. To the south of Püttelkow were the megalithic graves near Wittenburg , to the west the megalithic graves near Karft .

description

Grave 1

Grave 1 was a south-southeast-north-northwest oriented chamberless megalithic bed with a length of 110 feet (approx. 33 m) and a width of 18 feet (approx. 5.4 m). The stone enclosure was largely removed by Ritter's investigation. Only at the southern end was it still 20 feet (approx. 6 m) long. The mound was still 4.5 feet (1.4 m) high. Like the adjacent ground, it consisted of yellow sand and was interspersed with stone slabs that did not form any recognizable order. The only finds were a few ceramic shards.

Grave 2

No further information is available about the appearance of grave 2. It was destroyed by a farmer around 1844. Ceramic shards and an ax from a subsequent burial of the end-Neolithic individual grave culture were found. The latter is now in the collection of the Archaeological State Museum Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin .
