The large stone grave Schönebeck-Salzelmen was a megalithic Neolithic grave in Bad Salzelmen , a district of Schönebeck (Elbe) in the Salzlandkreis , Saxony-Anhalt . It was probably built by members of the late Neolithic Bernburg culture and destroyed in 1835 or 1836. A field name indicates another destroyed grave.

location

The grave was located west of Schönebeck and northwest of Bad Salzelmen on the Spitzen Berg , an elevation southwest of the Hummelberg . The field name "Steinfeld" is used for this position. In another place, the field name “am Teufelsküchenberg” indicates another possible large stone grave near Bad Salzelmen.

description

There is only a vague description of this tomb by Pastor F. Winter. Thus, it consisted of large granite - boulders and was of considerable size. Several ceramic vessels (" urns ") were found in the complex , which were initially brought to the town hall of Groß Salze. Only one of these vessels has survived today. This is a bulbous cup from the Bernburg culture, which is now kept in the cultural history museum in Magdeburg .

The large stone grave possibly referred to an older burial of the band ceramic culture . H. Burschkow mentions two vessels from this culture, which were allegedly found in a "stone grave" on the mountain peak. The exact relationship between these finds and the large stone grave must remain unclear because of the poor research situation and the destruction of the facility.
