Great stone grave Wozinkel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The large stone grave Wozinkel was a megalithic grave system of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Wozinkel , a district of the municipality of Obere Warnow in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It was destroyed in 1867 to obtain building material for the road from Parchim to Sternberg and examined in the process.

location

The location of the grave is only given generally as “zu Wozinkel, north of Parchim”. To the west of Wozinkel were the megalithic graves near Grebbin and to the east the megalithic graves near Granzin .

description

The grave was an elongated mound of unknown orientation and size. Inside was a large burial chamber made of eight wall stones about 6 feet (about 1.8 m) high. The length and width of the chamber are not recorded. The cap stones were missing. The chamber was a large dolmen . The spaces between the wall stones were filled with dry stone masonry made of small stones. The floor of the chamber was plastered with clay , coarse sand ( Grand ) and annealed flint . Slabs of red sandstone lay on top .

A human skeleton originally buried sitting was discovered in the chamber. It must have been a child or a young adolescent, as the two rear molars in the right upper jaw had not yet erupted. The chamber above the burial was filled with earth and stones.

Unspecified ceramic shards and a roughly hewn, unpolished narrow chisel made of gray flint were found among grave goods . The latter is now in the collection of the Archaeological State Museum Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Schwerin .
