Energeticon - blacksmith building

The Energeticon , which opened on September 8, 2014, is an adventure museum in Alsdorf . The museum is located on the site of the former Anna II mine in the worm area as part of the Aachen area . It consists of the three buildings of the forge, the winding machine house of the Eduardschachtes, the chew building and the outdoor area with a sculpture park.

history

The non-profit association Bergbaumuseum Wurmrevier , founded in 1986 , set itself the goal of researching and documenting the more than 150-year-old industrial coal mining in the Aachen and South Limburg region. The association was later renamed the Mining Museum Grube Anna and was then given the addition of the Society for Mining History and Industrial Culture . The aim of the association was to build a mining museum on the former site of the Anna II mine. When the NRW state government announced in 2001 that there would be no public funding for a mining museum, the idea of the Energeticon project developed. This project was developed into today's Energeticon.

After the reorganization of the association in 2019, the name of the association is today: Grube Anna Bergbauinformationszentrum Alsdorf (GABI Alsdorf).

building

The former blacksmith's building from 1910 forms the entrance area of the Energeticon. In addition to the foyer with counter and shop, a restaurant as well as cloakroom and sanitary facilities, the exhibition course begins and ends here. After being used as a forge and repair shop, parts of the EBV vocational training were located here, which is why the building is also referred to as the TZ (training center) by former miners. In the basement, EBV vocational training was already using a small training mine, which was further equipped by the Bergbaumuseum Grube Anna association.

The hoisting machine house, built in 1905, has served as a multifunctional meeting place for business, science and culture since 2008. It also enjoys the status of an architectural monument. Two electrical machines of different types are located in the two hoisting machine halls: a drum machine driven by direct current (eastern conveyance) and a more modern machine operated with three-phase current (western conveyance). In the converter hall there are converters with which the three-phase current of the power plant was converted into direct current and a 21 tonne Illgnant disc, with the kinetic energy of which was organized by a generator in the event of a power failure, an emergency power supply.

In the concept of the Energeticon, the chew building mainly houses the sections "Social and work history of mining", the scientific "1x1 of energy" and the presentation of the fundamentals of a regenerative, primarily solar-supported energy supply. The chew building consists of two different old building sections. In the part built in 1905, there were washrooms with shower rooms. The newer part was built in 1931 to replace the section of the building that was destroyed in a firedamp explosion in the Eduardschacht in 1930. In this upper floor, a training workshop was temporarily housed as part of the EBV vocational training.

Barbara Chapel

The Barbara Chapel was also built in the immediate vicinity of the Energeticon. A figure of Barbara, about 1.30 meters high, made using the metal casting process has been hanging in this since 2015. In the 1950s and 1960s, this figure hung on the branch of the 610-meter level of the Anna I and Anna II mine fields. At the end of the 1960s, the figure was 250 meters lower and from then on hung on the 860-meter level. In 1986 it returned to the daylight and was brought to the then headquarters of the Eschweiler Mining Association in Herzogenrath - Kohlscheid . It was there until October 2006. After a stopover in the foyer of the Alsdorf town hall, it now has its final place in the chapel. In the adjacent Anna Park, a stele marks the figure's previous location underground.
