The Bertha mine is a former iron mine in the Bensberg ore district in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Heidkamp district . The request for encouragement dates back to November 27, 1847 with the name Bertha auf Eisenstein. The award document was issued on November 23, 1849, as expected. Because of the economic difficulties of the Britannia union , whose agent was Eduard Knobel , applications were made for deadlines from 1853 to 1862 , which were approved by the mining authorities with deferrals so that the ownership structure could remain intact while the mine was inactive. The Bertha mine field lay between Kaltenbroich and Bonnschlade . If you turn from Lerbacher Weg into Oberheidkamper Straße, about 50 m before the place name sign Bergisch Gladbach goes a narrow trampled path to the west into the forest. After about 100 m you will find the Bertha mine. Spread over the small ridge you can see several pings from an earlier opencast mine . The buried mouth hole of a tunnel can be seen from the level of the Lerbach valley floor . Nothing further is known about the operating activities.
