The Hainau mine was an iron ore mine near Waldgirmes (municipality of Lahnau ) in the Lahn-Dill district . The pit was between Waldgirmes and Bieber in a wooded area northwest of the L3286 road. The name of the pit most likely comes from the nearby hamlet of Hof Haina .

history

The trading company Schulz & Defense Boldt for Justushütte in Gladenbach received, after a Muthung of 13 November 1850 the mine on 12 June 1860 Eisenstein and manganese Awarded . Around 1899 ownership passed to the Bergassessor Petri zu Gießen. The mine has been owned by the Friedrich Krupp company since 1916.

In the 44,085 square fathoms (approx. 140,000 m²) pit field , sporadic mining and test work was carried out from 1872 onwards . For this purpose, two shafts with a depth of 30 m were created. In 1869, a conveyor tunnel was set up southwest of the forester's house Haina and brought to a length of 61 Lachter (approx. 127 m). The final extension of the tunnel was 260 meters long and runs over the 2-8 meter thick warehouse over a length of approx. 80 meters.

The mining has dealt with dies and a foundation slab below the tunnel level . In front of the tunnel there is a shed and a mine house.

Around 1880 operations had to be stopped due to the ingress of water, but were later resumed. From 1900 the mine was in operation at times.

The pit was also known for its abundance of fossils and was described by Friedrich Maurer in 1875 and 1885.

In the mining field Hainau was found in the spring of 1873 with prospecting an existing quartzite stone ax, a flint knife and some originating from a human bone remains.
