The Humboldt mine is a former metal ore and lignite mine in the Bensberg ore district in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Paffrath district .

history

Due to a Mutungsgesuchs of 18 July 1851 was carried out ceremony of the mining area on September 11, 1852 the name of Humboldt on calamine , lead , iris , pyrite , iron and lignite . During the investigation of the deposit , a few digs and boreholes had been carried out and a 22 m deep hollow with mostly steep edges was found. Then teufte to a twelve-meter-deep pit , and drove in several directions routes before. How the dismantling took place is not known.

Location and relics

The pit was located in the middle of Schmidt-Blegge-Strasse between Handstrasse and Kolpingstrasse. All traces of the earlier mining have been erased by leveling the site and by the later development.
