The Gschrappkogel is 3194  m above sea level. A. high peak in the Geigenkamm in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol . When walking the Mainzer Höhenweg , a high alpine path from the Rüsselsheimer Hütte to the Braunschweiger Hütte , the Gschrappkogel is crossed.

Location and surroundings

The Gschrappkogel is located in the main ridge of the Geigenkamm about 650 meters south of the Wassertalkogel ( 3247  m ). The deepest notch in the ridge to the higher Wassertalkogel is only about 50 meters lower than the summit of the Gschrappkogel, so the Gschrappkogel is not a particularly independent summit. The very distinct main ridge runs from north to south from Wassertalkogel over Gschrappkogel to Wurmsitzkogel ( 3080  m ), which is about 500 meters away from Geschrappkogel. To the west, to the Pitztal, the mountain shows a gravel and craggy flank. To the east, to the Pollestal, another ridge runs from the summit of the Gschrappkogel to the east, which separates the Mittenkar in the north from the Hintkar in the south. There are no glaciers in the area of the mountain.

Alpinism

The Mainzer Höhenweg , a high alpine climb in the Geigenkamm from the Rüsselsheimer Hütte to the Braunschweiger Hütte , leads over the summit of the Gschrappkogel. From the Wassertalkogel in the north via the Gschrappkogel to the Wurmsitzkogel in the south, the Mainzer Höhenweg leads almost constantly on or near the ridge of the main ridge of the Geigenkamm.

The easiest way to get to the Gschrappkogel is via the southern section of the Mainzer Höhenweg. The actual beginning of this climb can be reached from the Braunschweiger Hütte on the northern Pollesjoch. This can be reached from the hut via the Pitztaler Jöchl, or - to avoid the risk of falling rocks in the area of the Joch - via the Franz Auer Steig through the cirque known as the Silbergrube.Alternatively , the northern Pollesjoch can also be reached from the Ötztal from the uppermost car park in the Rettenbachtal become.
