The Wurmsitzkogel is 3079 m above sea level. A. high peak in the Geigenkamm in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol . Just under 150 meters south of the summit of the Wurmsitzkogel is another summit point ( 3063 m above sea level ), which is referred to as Wildes Männle on the Alpine Club map . The Mainzer Höhenweg , a high alpine path from the Rüsselsheimer Hütte to the Braunschweiger Hütte , passes a few meters from the highest points of these peaks.
Location and surroundings
The Wurmsitzkogel is a chamber elevation in the main ridge of the Geigenkamm north of the Pollesjoch. It is located about 500 meters south of the higher Gschrappkogel ( 3194 m ), to which it only has a very low notch height , so the Wurmsitzkogel is not an independent summit. The distinctly pronounced main ridge runs from the Wurmsitzkogel via Gschrappkogel to the Wassertalkogel ( 3247 m ). To the west, to the Pitztal, the mountain shows a scree and craggy flank. To the southeast, to the Pollestal, there is a small rock fall.
Alpinism
The Mainzer Höhenweg , a high alpine climb in the Geigenkamm from the Rüsselsheimer Hütte to the Braunschweiger Hütte , leads over the summit of the Wurmsitzkogel. From the Wassertalkogel in the north via the Gschrappkogel and Wurmsitzkogel, the Mainzer Höhenweg leads almost constantly on or near the ridge of the main ridge of the Geigenkamm.
The easiest way to reach the Wurmsitzkogel is via the southern section of the Mainzer Höhenweg. The actual beginning of this climb can be reached from the Braunschweiger Hütte on the northern Pollesjoch. This can be reached from the hut via the Pitztaler Jöchl, or - to avoid the risk of falling rocks in the area of the Joch - via the Franz-Auer-Steig through the cirque known as Silbergrube.Alternatively , the northern Pollesjoch can also be reached from the Ötztal from the top parking lot in Rettenbachtal can be reached.
