The Guépratte Island ( French Île Guépratte ) is an icy and 2.5 km long island in the Palmer Archipelago west of Grahamland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located between the Anvers and Brabant islands on the east side of the entrance to Fournier Bay .
The island is shown for the first time on a map by the German cartographer Ludwig Friederichsen from 1895, which he made on the basis of Eduard Dallmann's results during the Antarctic voyage with the Groenland (1873-1874). Another mapping took place during the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903-1905) under the direction of the polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . Charcot named the island after Émile Paul Aimable Guépratte (1856-1939), then captain and later admiral of the French Navy . It was renamed Discovery Island in 1927 by scientists from the British Discovery Investigations .
