Guenter Mokulys (born October 30, 1963 in Bonn , Germany ) is a German skateboarder . He is 11 times world freestyle skateboarding champion. He also took part in over 100 competitions around the world, making him one of the most successful skateboarders ever.

biography

Mokulys grew up in Dortmund . He currently lives in Berlin . Mokulys started skateboarding at the age of 18. This was followed by daily training of up to nine hours and a move to Münster . His training ground there was one of the first outdoor skate parks in Germany.

In 1984 and 1985 he was part of a training camp with coaches and skateboarders such as Rodney Mullen , Tony Hawk , Mike McGill , Lance Mountain and Per Welinder in Täby, Sweden . Motivated by this experience, Mokulys decided to spend even more time on the skateboard.

After three years of training, Mokulys won the amateur world championship in freestyle skateboarding at the "Transworld Skateboarding Championship" in Canada in 1986 and the Münster Monster Mastership in Münster.

In 1987 he came under contract as a professional skateboarder in Titus Dittmann's Titus Skates Team. Around 50 other competitions and shows across Europe followed by 1992.

Mokulys decided to write the first German-language textbooks about skateboarding. Initially ridiculed, his six books, written between 1987 and 1994, became successes.

In 1991 Mokulys won the professional world championship in Münster, Germany. From 1994 onwards, skateboarding in the USA and Europe had slipped to a low point: there were almost no more competitions, so Mokulys stopped skateboarding. In 2002 in Cologne he came back to skateboarding. After a year of training, Mokulys won the 2003 World Championship in Würzburg . Another 50 competitions worldwide followed.

In 2004 and 2007 he wrote books about skateboarding again and founded his own Sir Marshall publishing house for it.

This was followed by global show appearances since 2009: With a friend and skateboard street artist, Eddie Hawk, Mokulys founded the Skateboardmasters, which celebrated success on stage, in variety shows and on TV, for example Die Große Chance in 2013 , Got to Dance in 2014 and 2016 Tell the truth .

At the age of 53, Mokulys is still one of the world's best freestyle skateboarders and has competed in competitions and shows around the world, and has earned respect and recognition from his fellow competitors, especially for his routine, mostly flawless runs.

In freestyle skateboarding, at the age of 51, he also holds the record as the oldest champion of a world championship at The World Freestyle Round-Up 2015 in Vancouver .

He last won the Big Rio Freestyle Contest in January 2017 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil .

He also runs an online skateboard shop, under which he also sells his own brand, Marshall Skateboarding.

Guenter Mokulys is considered one of the most successful skateboarders in Europe.

Nicknames of his are The Dances with the Skateboard and The German Smile .
