Guido Assmann

Guido Assmann (* 1964 in Radevormwald ) is a German Roman Catholic priest in the archdiocese of Cologne and Cologne elected provost .

Career

Guido Assmann was born in Radevormwald in the Bergisches Land in 1964 . He grew up in the Bergerhof district and has a brother. After graduating from the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Radevormwald and studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the universities of Bonn and Freiburg , he was ordained priest on June 1, 1990 by Archbishop Joachim Meisner in Cologne Cathedral . After years of chaplaincy at St. Bruno in Cologne-Klettenberg and at St. Patricius in Eitorf , he became pastor at St. Michael in Dormagen in 1998 . In 2000 he was also appointed dean of the Dormagen dean's office . Pope Benedict XVI appointed Guido Assmann in 2005 chaplain of his Holiness with the title Monsignore , in October 2005 he was also accepted into the knightly order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem as part of an investiture in Magdeburg Cathedral . For the order, in addition to his other duties, from December 2011 to September 2014 he performed the duties of prior of the Commandery of the Holy Three Kings in Cologne. The call to Neuss followed in 2007, where Assmann became senior pastor at Quirinus-Münster and district dean of the Neuss district dean's office. From March 1, 2013 to August 2016, Assmann was also a parish administrator in the pastoral care area Elsbach-Erft in Grevenbroich . Archbishop Rainer Maria Cardinal Woelki appointed Guido Assmann as a non-resident cathedral chapter in 2017. On May 29, 2020 it was announced that Assmann had been elected provost at Cologne's High Cathedral as the successor of Gerd Bachner in absentia at a special meeting of the Cologne Cathedral Chapter . The election was confirmed by Cardinal Woelki. The inauguration is scheduled for September 20, 2020 as part of a chapter office in Cologne Cathedral.

As cathedral provost, Guido Assmann represents Cologne Cathedral, he and the cathedral dean are responsible for pastoral care at Cologne Cathedral and the maintenance of the house of worship and so also service supervisor for around 120 employees in the cathedral building . He is chairman of the Metropolitan or Cathedral Chapter, which also elects the Archbishop of Cologne .
