The Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium Radevormwald (THG) is a general education high school in the city of Radevormwald . The school is named after Theodor Heuss , the first Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany .

history

founding

From 1964 the city of Radevormwald tried to build its own grammar school. The main reason for this was the lack of classrooms in Remscheid-Lennep as a result of the growing number of students from Radevormwald. The negotiations between the city and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia lasted until 1966, when the funds for the construction and maintenance costs were finally approved. In 1968 the location of the building was determined and Theodor Heuss was the namesake.

The THG was officially opened by the mayor on August 9, 1968 at 10 a.m. The first headmistress was Ursula Preisser (1926–1986), who initially led the provisional lessons with a handful of colleagues at the school on Blumenstrasse with two classes. In May 1971 the construction of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium began at the lower end of Hermannstrasse.
