Guido Zingerle (born September 3, 1902 in Tschars , † August 9, 1962 in Turi ) was a sexual murderer dubbed the "Monsters of Tyrol" who killed two women and raped another three women in the late 1940s . In his murders, Zingerle used caves he had built and equipped in the Tyrolean mountains, into which he abducted and raped his victims. Zingerle carried out the killing by burying his victims under a pile of stones in order to let them die in agony for days, while he observed this. Further murders of Zingerle cannot be ruled out. Zingerle lived in after the Second World WarInnsbruck .

Deeds

The first proven victim of Zingerle was the young teacher Gertrud Kutin (a sister of Helmut Kutin ) from Bolzano, whom he kidnapped near Glaning in May 1946 , raped and buried under heavy stones until she finally died in agony after several days. A short time later he raped a 15-year-old girl near Karneid and walled her up in a rock niche. The girl was able to free herself on her own. In 1947 he was reported by two women whom he had detained and raped for several days; he was imprisoned for a year. Three years later, Zingerle raped and murdered an English tourist in the Iss, on the eastern slope of the Patscherkofel .

Arrest and imprisonment

In August 1950, after five weeks of persecution by the police from North and South Tyrol, Zingerle was arrested in an alpine hut near Vals (Mühlbach) . After trials in Bolzano and Innsbruck, he was sentenced to multiple life imprisonment.

On August 9, 1962, Zingerle died of liver cancer in Turi prison in the province of Bari .

Aftermath

Even decades after the murders, Zingerle was regarded as the epitome of evil in the region. Parents often used the upbringing formula “If you are not good, Zingerle will get you” towards unruly children.

In 2010 the play Gemma Zingerle schaugn by author Gertraud Lener was premiered in Absam . The play is about the last minutes of the murderer in his cell, in which he encounters death and is confronted with his deeds. In 2015 the play Fliegende Hitzen , written by Lorenz Gutmann and Veronika Eberl, premiered at the Tyrolean Volksschauspiele in Telfs . The story of Guido Zingerle is retold with deep black humor.

Roland Silbernagl plays the title role in the 40-minute feature film Zingerle , made by Eric Marcus Weglehner in 2018 .
