Guillermo Fayed (born November 28, 1985 in Chamonix ) is a former French ski racer . He started in the World Cup in the downhill , super-G and combined disciplines .

biography

Fayed learned to ski at the age of three. From 2006 he was a member of the B-team of the French Ski Association. In December 2000 he contested his first FIS races , from December 2004 he also started in the European Cup . The best result in this racing series is fourth place in the Wengen descent on January 7, 2010.

In the World Cup Fayed took first time on 10 December 2005 in departure from Val d'Isere in part, reaching the next day in the super combined with rank 29 his first World Cup points. Since the 2007/08 season he has competed regularly in the World Cup. This winter, as in the following season , a 20th place in the downhill run from Val Gardena was his best result. He achieved two top 20 results in winter 2009/10 . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he was 22nd in the Super-G and 26th in the downhill. After the end of the season he was promoted to the French A-team.

Fayed achieved his first top 10 placement on December 18, 2010 with sixth place in the downhill run from Val Gardena. Almost three months later, another sixth place followed in Kvitfjell . At the 2011 World Cup , he was 23rd in the downhill. After several seasons without top results, he surprisingly finished second on November 29, 2014 on the Downhill of Lake Louise and thus achieved his first podium finish in a World Cup race. On January 24, 2015, he finished third in the downhill from Kitzbühel, followed by the second podium.

In the 2015/16 season he achieved two more podium places: On December 4 and 19, 2015, he finished second and third in the downhill runs from Beaver Creek and Val Gardena. Shortly before the end of the season, during training on the downhill from Kvitfjell , he fell while jumping to the target and tore a cruciate ligament in his right knee. He then gradually lost touch with the world's best. After failing to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics , he announced his retirement from top-class sport on March 25, 2018.
