Gunter A. Pilz (born December 5, 1944 in Baden-Baden ) is a German sociologist specializing in sports sociology .

Life

Mushroom studied in Freiburg , Munich and Zurich first sociology , psychology and economics , and was then a researcher at the Research Institute of the Federal Physical Training and Sports Magglingen operates. Since 1975 he has been working with a focus on sport and violence , football fan culture , right-wing extremism in sport and active school at the Institute for Sport Science at the University of Hanover . He retired on March 31, 2010 and was again from May 2012 to October 2015 at the Institute for Sport Science at Leibniz Universität Hannover Head of the Competence Group Fan Cultures and Sport-Related Social Work (KoFaS) and has been a professional advisor to KoFaS gGmbH since September 2015.

Gunter A. Pilz is chairman of the network "Sport & Politics for Fairness, Respect and Human Dignity" (formerly "Network Sport and Politics united against right-wing extremism"), which was founded in 2011.

“The fight against right-wing extremism and discrimination and for a cosmopolitan, democratic society can only be successful if all relevant actors in sport, society and politics come together. Based on this knowledge, the SPORT + POLITIK united (t) campaign against right-wing extremism was launched in 2011. The Network Sport & Politics for Fairness, Respect and Human Dignity reaffirmed this with its self-image adopted in June 2018. ”(Prof. Dr. Gunter A. Pilz, 2019).

In 2008, Pilz was awarded an honorary professorship at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences .

He is a member of the German Academy for Football Culture .

Pilz lives in Nienhagen (Celle district) , is married and has four children.

Honors

On July 19, 2012, Pilz was awarded the golden bar of honor by the Lower Saxony Football Association for “outstanding services to the promotion of football and in recognition of tireless commitment to its goals”.

On September 6, 2012, Pilz received the Ethics Prize of the German Olympic Sports Confederation for outstanding services in the areas of fair play and violence prevention as well as for many years of engagement against right-wing extremism.

Pilz has made a name for himself primarily as a researcher on violence and conflict in the fields of sport and society. His work deals with topics such as fan culture, fair play , right-wing extremism in football and social work . He has prepared several reports for the Federal Ministry of the Interior , was one of the initiators of the Hanover football fan project in 1985 , which he supported scientifically until 2011, and was a member of the UEFA Ethics and Fair Play expert committee . He is the representative of the German Football Association for social responsibility, heads the working group fair play and violence prevention there , is chairman of the network sport and politics for fairness, respect and human dignity , chairman of working group quality assurance of fan projects according to the national concept sport and security (NKSS ), the working group of the Daniel Nivel Foundation and is a member of the DFB Commissions Prevention & Safety & Football Culture and Social Responsibility , the DFB Integration Prize Expert Committee, the DFB “Diversity” Working Group, the Association Offers Project Group on Violence, Discrimination and Extremism Incidents of the DFB and the AG Sport with courage of the DOSB as well as appointed member of the German Academy for Football Culture . He is chairman of the network "Sport & Politics for Fairness, Respect and Human Dignity".
