Gunter Halm

Gunter Halm (born July 23, 1940 in Nuremberg ) is a former German politician and functionary of the GDR block party NDPD . From 1989/90 he was Minister for Light Industry in the GDR .

Life

Halm, the son of an employee, trained as a chemical laboratory technician from 1954 to 1957. After attending the Faculty of Workers and Farmers (1957-1960), he graduated from high school and studied physics from 1960 to 1965 at the Technical University of Dresden . He completed his studies with a degree in physics. In 1971 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat. at the TU Dresden with the thesis studies on ellipsometry for the investigation of corrosion protection layers .

From 1965 to 1970 he was a research assistant and department head for process research at the Institute for Rolling and Plain Bearings in Leipzig . From 1970 to 1972 he worked as department head and deputy director for science and technology at VVB Wälzlager Leipzig, then from 1972 to 1978 head of department and director for research and development at VE Kombinat Wälzlager und Normteile Leipzig. From 1978 to 1984 he was finally director for research and development at VE Kombinat Wälzlager und Normteile Karl-Marx-Stadt .

From 1984 to 1989 Halm was Deputy Minister for the Glass and Ceramics Industry . From November 1989 to March 1990 he was Minister for Light Industry, then from April to October 1990 State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and from late 1990 to 1991 a member of the board of the Treuhandanstalt .

From 1954 to 1965 Halm was a member of the FDJ . In 1965 he joined the NDPD. From 1982 he was a member of the main committee and from 1985 a member of the presidium of the main committee and the party executive committee of the NDPD. In 1989 he became secretary of the main committee and, after the NDPD joined the Bund Free Democrats on March 28, 1990, also a member of its executive committee.
