Gunther Adler

Gunther Adler (born March 17, 1963 in Leipzig ) is a German political official .

Life

Adler grew up in Leipzig and studied medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1986 to 1988 . After fleeing the GDR in March 1989, he continued his studies at the University of Cologne until 1990 . From 1990 to 1997 he studied political science , sociology and constitutional law at the University of Bonn , graduating with a Magister Artium .

From 1992 to 1994 he was an employee of Hans-Jochen Vogel and from 1998 to 1999 he was a research assistant to Prime Minister Johannes Rau . From 1999 to 2004 he was an advisor to the Federal President Johannes Rau in the Federal President's Office and from 2004 to 2008 he was head of the executive office of the SPD party executive . From 2008 to 2012, Adler was head of division in what was then the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development.

From 2012 to March 2014 he was State Secretary in the Ministry for Building, Housing, Urban Development and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . From 2014 to 2018 he was permanent state secretary in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety , responsible for the areas of construction, housing and urban development. On May 15, 2018, he moved to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs as State Secretary with unchanged responsibilities .

On September 19, 2018, Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer announced that Adler would be temporarily retired as soon as Hans-Georg Maaßen took up the post of State Secretary intended for him. The party leaders of the grand coalition consisting of CDU, CSU and SPD moved away from this on September 23, 2018 after considerable criticism from associations in the real estate industry.

On March 1, 2019, he moved to Autobahn GmbH des Bundes as Managing Director Human Resources , which will take over the planning, administration and operation of the German motorway network from the federal states from the beginning of 2021.
